I had a dream the other night that made me think about the effect of surprise parties on the recipient.

My first thought was that it deprived the recipient of the joy of anticipation. In my view the anticipation of an upcoming event is as enjoyable as the event itself.

And then I remembered the children’s TV shows I had seen where the people (or puppets) pretended to forget the person’s birthday causing him to feel detected and unhappy, and then it was supposed to all be fine because the person then got a surprise birthday party. Well, I just thought it was cruel.

I’m very happy that no-one I know has thought to give me one. 🙂

I love to read your thoughts. Thank you for leaving a comment.
